Day 5 of Organizing my Home Office

Done at last… nothing like an organized office to boost your energy. Love coming in here now. I have space on my shelves and 2 empty file drawers.

What did being disorganized cost me this past year?

Wasted Money:

I almost went out to buy office supplies to help me organize but decided to wait. Glad I waited. During the office organizing process, I ended up with a surplus of binders, dividers, storage containers, file folders etc.

Sad part is that I spend hundreds of dollars on un-needed supplies during 2007. Simply because I couldn’t find stuff or outdated stuff took up space. I got an abundance office supplies.

Late Fee Charges:

I won’t even mention how many bills got paid late because I couldn’t find them or tried to remember when they were due… Once again hundreds of dollars wasted on late fee charges not to mention a ding in the credit rating.

Miss Opportunities:

Miss opportunities to build relationships… That translates into missed income and business growth.

Wasted Time:

Right after all the upheaval finally settled down… I should have stopped and put things back in order. But getting caught up in the old "time management" mentally of doing… doing… doing cause me to lose 7 months of 2007.

I fell off the wagon… or should I say the Thinking Outside the Clock Success system. Without it, my blonde brain takes over and my naturally tendancy for disorganization and scatterbrain behavior resurfaces.

Found Money

I found checks and cash while organzing my office. Not only that, unexpected checks showed up in the mail. This disorganized mess blocked prosperity.

I learned some valuable lessons… discovered I’m an imperfect human and it didn’t take that much to back on the Thinking Outside the Clock Success system.

A Very Blonde Year - Part 3 - Decluttering & Getting Organized

Day 4 of Organizing the Office

The three banker boxes and 2 bins still sit in the middle of the office. They were overflowing with papers and stuff. It seemed like I didn’t make progress in getting this office organized.

Over the past three days, I spent hours going through every binder, drawer and shelf. Also went through all the files. That generated 4 big garbage bags of trash.

I created space on the shelves and ended with a couple empty drawers while organizing. Cleaning out the 3 boxes and one of the bins happend in just a couple of hours.

The one side of my desk remains a disaster area but I feel burned out dealing with clutter… time to stop and do something different.

Part of my game plan included getting rid of the one computer and finish removing the carpet. I plan on painting the room this spring. With the boxes emptied and off the floor, the office had room to move about.

Good time to for me to remove the old computer and its desk out of the room… okay… hubby removed it.

He took out the rest of the carpet before bringing down the work desk. I now have a place to work on projects. It also a nice spot when using the laptop.

It was a good time to do some heavy duty cleaning.

A Very Blonde Year - Part 2 - Decluttering & Getting Organized

Today starts day 3 of Getting My Life Back in order by organizing my office. This will take a little longer than plan. I didn’t realize how out of control everything was… no wonder it kept taking me forever to get anything accomplished.

How do you begin to organize when you find yourself buried in clutter?

I applied the I.O.E. 3 Step Process from my book Flip Your Time to get the office organized.

Step 1 – Identify -What to Organize

I walk around the office (where I could) and did an assessment. From there, I made a list of what I would need, what would stay and what to do etc.

Step 2- Organize – Put a Plan Together to Organize the Office

A big part of the problem resulted from "no place to put stuff" so I would need temporary holding while organizing. I decided use 2 paper bins and 3 banker boxes.(Already had 2 banker boxes full) Garbage bags for trash.

Decide where to start and organized the activity list accordingly.

Step 3 – Execute – Begin to Organize my Office

Now I’m ready to take action.

I picked the storage closet for the starting point. Cleaning out the closet would free up space. From there, I would work my way around the office clockwise.

Still learning to use video… I picked up an inexpensive web cam at Radio Shack. Don’t know how to edit or how to use lighting but I discovered how to add titles using Window Movie Maker.

A Very Blonde Year - Part 1

Can’t believe the year is almost over… actually I’m glad.

Born a natural blonde, experiencing blonde moments became a way of life. But a whole fricken year… give me a break.

Not familiar with blonde moments?

A flash of momentary stupidity that causes a wise intelligent person to temporarily lose their train of thought
and gets disoriented making them feel dumb.

This past year my life was totally out of control surrounded by chaos and disorganization. It took me the whole year to realize it… now that is really being blonde.

How can The Time Diva find herself in this situation? Easier than I thought… just let the blonde in me take over.

I’m taking back control of my life and decided to do a video documentary. Great excuse to learn a new toy.
